dinnerladies promise to serve up a menu crammed with comedy at the Grand Opera House

VICTORIA Wood's hit BBC TV sitcom dinnerladies takes to the Grand Opera House stage on Monday, May 10, serving up a menu packed with some of the comedienne's funniest writing!

The television show, which initially ran for two series from 1998 to 2000, was voted ninth in the all-time list of favourite sitcoms - a remarkable feat for a programme where only 16 episodes were ever made.

The stage play, produced by Jan Hunt and David Graham, is based on the second TV series and follows the reluctant love story of Bren and Tony, originally played by Victoria Wood and Andrew Dunn, who re-creates his TV role in the stage version.

They are egged on by their work colleagues, Dolly, Jean, Twinkle and Anita. Making frequent appearances are caretaker Stan, Philippa from Human Resources, secretary Jane played on this tour by Sue Devaney who portrayed the character in the TV series and Bren's truly dreadful mother, Petula, played originally by Julie Walters.

Andrew Dunn and Sue Devaney are also well-known for their roles in Coronation Street. Sue played Debbie Webster for several years and Andrew recently finished playing the role of Roger Stiles. Sue is also well known as Liz Harker from BBC TV's Casualty.

This touring production of dinnerladies bears a very close resemblance to the well-loved TV series, with a strong, experienced cast re-creating some of the best drawn sitcom characters on television, delivering some of the funniest lines.

dinnerladies runs at the Grand Opera House from Monday, May 10 through to Saturday, May 15, with matinee and evening performances available.

Tickets range from 11.25 to 27.25 and can be purchased in person at the Grand Opera House Box Office, via telephone on 9024 1919 or by logging onto www.goh.co.uk
