New competition for primary musicians

A brand new competition which will highlight the excellence of primary school musicians will be inaugurated at this year’s Ballymena Festival.

The Festival, which is among the largest in Northern Ireland, felt that it would be appropriate to give some practical recognition also to outstanding performers in a more junior class. Following the success of the Junior Instrumentalist competition last year, a new class has been inaugurated, for Primary School Instrumentalist of the Year, carrying a Bursary of £100, presented by Black Advertising, one of the sponsors who continue to provide vital financial support to young musicians.

The Committee hopes that many of these talented young people both from Ballymena area and from further afield will decide to compete for this new award in 2014. There is no lower age limit but it’s recommended that performers should be at about Grade 3 level. Performers will be primary school age and can enter online by logging on to the Ballymena festival website : www.ballymenafestival.org.uk
