“These include artists such as Winston Weir alongside several artists who have already carved international reputations for themselves.

“We’ve paintings by artists of the calibre of Dougal McKenzie, Jennifer Trouton, Peter Neil and Simon McWilliams, for instance, who all show their work regularly in galleries around the world. This is a very accessible exhibition and I’d urge everyone to come along.”

Dr Suzanne Lyle, Head of Visual Arts, Arts Council of Northern Ireland, said: “Each year since 2003, we have acquired challenging and innovative art by contemporary artists working in all media in Northern Ireland. Anyone visiting the exhibition over the next few weeks will see the extraordinary quality and range of work from Northern Ireland’s visual artists, which goes far beyond what might be expected of a small region and something to be immensely proud of.”

The Oriel Gallery at Clotworthy House is open Monday to Saturday from 9.30am to 5pm with late opening on Thursday evenings to 9.30pm. Admission to the exhibition is free. For further information telephone 028 9448 1338.
