New live music club at the BT

THE Ballymena live music scene is expanding steadily thanks to the efforts of the BT Blues Club to bring new and exciting music from established and upcoming Northern Irish musicians and bands.

The BT Blues Club has been entertaining music fans since 2008 when Paul and Gary decide to open a club run by musicians for musicians.

The afternoon live sessions has proven to be a real success over the last four years.

To broaden the range of musical genres on offer an exciting new club called the BT Roots Club opens on Saturday, June 16 and is set to run on the third Saturday of each month alternating fortnightly with the BT Blues Club now firmly established on the first Saturday of each month.

Paul and Gary have entered into association with Errol Walsh.

Errol, a well known professional singer-songwriter is no stranger to the club and is renowned for his blues, folk and country music, having lived in Canada for many years homing his skill.

The BT Roots Club at the BT Club in Church Street Arcade, offers a broad mix of acoustic acts and electric bands playing a wide range of alternative and roots music.

The kick-off date is Saturday, June 16 from 4pm till 8pm and features award winning singer/songwriter Errol Walsh with his band “The Real Deal” who play an authentic mix of original material and selected songs from a wide range of ’roots music’ from Ry Cooder to Gram Parsons with all stops in between.

In additon the guys have managed to put on a very special treat for the first gig with an opening act of rare and fine quality in the shape of the fabulous Mama Kaz who is creating a stir all over the country with her powerful vocals and evocative acoustic blues.

The Real Deal are: Errol Walsh (Guitar/Vocals), Dougie Gough (Guitar/Vocals), Ali McKenzie (Bass), Dave Kennedy (Drums) and Ivan McLernon (Lap steel, Pedal steel and Dobro).

Paul also promises an exiting line up for coming months to include the Down and Out Bluegrass Band, Willie Drennan and JHoe Allen and a few surprise tribute gigs, watch this space.

As always, the admission price of £5 aims to keep music both real and affordable! Doors open as usual at 3pm, there will be the usual raffle and craic, come early to grab your seat and sit back and chill to the sounds of the Real Deal.
