Doreen and her willing team of volunteer knitters meet up at the Broughshane Street shop each Wednesday evening to create numerous woolly items in support of charities.

She says: “We have over 300 members from all over the province. We knit and fill pencil cases which are sent out through missionaries from May to December. Last year we sent out 3195 to countries such as Uganda and Moldova. We knit hats, gloves and neck warmers for Seaman’s Christian Friends Society and for the homeless on the streets of Dublin and Belfast,” said Doreen.

“We also create small baby clothes for sleeping angels and for the premature babies in the hospitals. Small teddies and hairbands are sent out to Third World countries as well”, she added.

Currently, the volunteers are busy knitting ‘wee chicks’ which are on sale at the shop for £1 for Raise The Roof Children’s choir to help buy a school in Uganda.
