Superstar items for auction in Ballymena

Sporting memorabilia with links to some of the world’s star performers will go under the hammer in Ballymena on Thursday, January 30.

Items linked to Lionel Messi, Tiger Woods and many other superstars will be sold at a charity auction, known as ‘The Big Eat’, which is being organised by students from Green Pastures Church who are raising much needed funds for a trip to Ethiopia later this year.

Local businessman Ali Patton, who is heading up the Mission Ethiopia team believes that the auction items will appeal to a wide range of sports enthusiasts and collectors.

He said “Our star lot on Thursday night is a shirt signed by Lionel Messi – probably the world’s greatest ootballer, but we also have, for Manchester United fans, a framed 16”x12” limited edition montage signed by Robin van Persie.

“We also have a signed Southampton FC football shirt kindly sponsored by midfielder Steven Davis, and a South Africa U19 rugby training top, signed by Stephen Dippenaar, Patrick Lambie, Francois Hougaard, Mahlatse ‘Chiliboy’ Ralepelle and Cecil Afrika, among others.

“There is also likely to be a great deal of interest in a white baseball style cap signed by the legendary Tiger Woods during the 2009 British Open.”

Other items under the hammer include lunch for two at the dining rooms in Stormont, flights for two to experience the Aurora Borealis, a three night getaway for two people in Southern France and an overnight stay for two at the Rosspark Hotel with dinner included.

“And for those old enough to remember we have a signed helmet worn by TT rider Keith Flint of The Prodigyand Team Traction Control fame,” says Ali.

“We have many more unique and practical lots, from photography to piano lessons to iron-ing and even cake decorating classes. The event was a sell-out last year so if you would like to attend the auction, or view the catalogue visit - http://goo.gl/L1FQj9
