Sweeney Todd serves up tasty treat

THEATREGOERS can look forward to being served up a tasty treat when curtains rise on a stirring stage production of Sweeney Todd in Newtownabbey's new theatre of dreams.

The impressive new Theatre at the Mill, in the grounds of Newtownabbey Council's civic headquarters at Mossley Mill, is the setting for the Northern Ireland premiere of Stephen Sondheim's classic musical drama about the demon barber of Fleet Street.

Peter Corry stars as the murderous barber Sweeney Todd and Nuala McKeever plays pie shop owner Mrs Lovett, in this dark, comic and compelling work based on a book by Hugh Wheeler.

While Todd's victims meet a sticky end at the hands of their barber, his partner in crime Mrs Lovett packs her meat pies with their flesh, selling them on to unsuspecting customers.

The show was a major Broadway hit, and this adaptation by Christopher Bond is certain to both spook and delight.

Sweeney Todd runs at the Theatre at the Mill from February 2 to 13. Show times are 7.45pm, with matinees Thursdays and Saturdays at 2.30pm. Tickets are priced at 25, 22, 18, 12. To book tickets, telephone 028 9034 0202, or buy online at www.theatreatthemill
