The Gruffalo visits Kells and Connor Primary School

There was much excitement in Kells and Connor Primary school this week, when children and parents welcomed a special visitor to school.

The Gruffalo, one of author Julia Donaldson, and illustrator Axel Scheffler’s, most famous characters joined the children and their teachers who hosted an impromptu Big Lunch for their special guest.

The mother of a Primary 1 student who entered the school into the Eden project’s Big Lunch Gruffalo competition said: “We were over the moon to hear we were getting a visit as the children all know and love the Gruffalo story. We were thrilled to invite Kells and Connor Preschool to share in this special school activity and as The Big Lunch is all about sharing community spirit and friendship with neighbours we wanted them to enjoy

the Gruffalo’s visit too.”

“We have a lovely social community here in Kells and Connor and our Primary Seven pupils were delighted to play host to the young visitors, serving food and supporting the PTA with the Gruffalo tea party, it was a lot of fun.

“There was lots to do including a Gruffalo film screening, Gruffalo sketching and we even enjoyed tasting some special poisonous warts and terrible teeth as part of the fun.

Principal of Kells and Connor School Roy Mc Clelland said: “This was a great fun morning for all pupils involved in school and those in the local playgroup who joined us.

“What a great way to bring the community and the children together around a good book.”
