The VATman cometh ....D-Day looming nearer in vital Social Club survival battle

D-DAY is fast approaching in the battle to save Ballymena United Sports and Social Club from closure.

The Slemish Drive venue could face the axe in August over an unpaid VAT bill to Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs.

Fund-raising efforts have been ongoing over the past few weeks with other sources of additional financial help being sourced.

Club officials have asked that all pledges of donations should be completed by this Sunday, July 24, with the monies raised being held in a separate club account.

A club spokesperson said: “Where this is not within people’s present financial standing, staged payments could be agreed, but only a substantial balance in our pledge account has any chance of influencing HMRC.

“Should negotiations fail, resulting in closure, all donated monies will be returned in full,” the spokesperson added.
