Cullybackey High ‘rightly proud’ of its students

CULLYBACKEY High School is rightly proud of its fifth year students who have just received their GCSE and other examination results.

Outstanding performances were achieved by twins Stephanie and Gemma Lennox, Andrea Neill, Emma Patton, Catherine Watson, Hannah Gilmore and Kelly Ashfield.

Not to be out done, some male students also achieved a wide range of success in the top grades; notably Alastair Davidson, Joshua Fenton, Jordan McBurney, Justin Mark and Trevor Holmes.

All but one student achieved grades A*-C in Art and Design, Construction, French, Hospitality and ICT, while subjects achieving 100% A*–C grades were English Literature, History, Child Development and full course RE, 63% of students achieved success at A*–C with 99% achieving success at A*-G.

A 31.3% of students achieved seven subject passes at A*-C including English and Maths with 54.2% achieving five subject passes at A*-C.

The percentage of those achieving five subjects passes at A*-C including English and Maths showed a seven per cent increase on last year.

Nineteen students attended the NRC for a range of vocational qualifications examined by CCEA under the Occupations Studies planner. All achieved success with 13 receiving the highest level of success (level 2, equivalent to a B at GCSE), five at Level One and one achieving first skills success.

All students are entered for Key Skills ICT and all achieved success.

A small number of students had been studying for BTEC level 2 Extended Certficates, Jessica Byers received a distinction* in Horse Care with Maisie McClenaghan and Vicki Kilgore passing with merit. Jessica Reid also received distinction* in Agriculture.

A spokesperson for the school said: “The results once again reflect the professional input and dedication of teaching staff and the continued support of parents. Success in exams at any level cannot be achieved without the total commitment of pupils, staff and parents and the combined outstanding pastoral care for which the school is renound.

“Many of our most successful students are returning to sixth form in Cullybackey High School, some to other schools in the Ballymena area, some to the NRC and others to training and employment.

“Whatever the students choose the Governors, Headmaster and staff wish them every success in the future”.
