Earth Science Conference in Cullybackey High School

CULLYBACKEY High School hosted an Earth Sciences Conference for A-Level Geography students last Thursday.

They were joined by pupils and staff from Ballyclare Secondary School, Cambridge House Grammar School, Dalriada Grammar School and Rainey Endowed.

Dr. Alaister Ruffell from Queens University, Belfast launched the event with a series of lectures on Plate Tectonics and current strategies in the prediction and management of earthquakes and their hazards. He was followed by Mr. Gordon Best of Quarry Products Association Northern Ireland and Mr. James Bryant from W5 who gave students an insight into the career opportunities in the field of Earth Sciences within Northern Ireland.

Thanks were offered for the speakers who gave up their time to make the conference possible, and to Mr Bob Dickey of the Earth Sciences Outreach Group who helped orchestrate the event.
