Three stars for St Patrick’s pupil Michael

ST Patrick’s College student Michael Murray is celebrating the achievement of three starred A grades – the highest grade it is possible to achieve – in his ‘A’ Level results.

Michael studied Sport at Double Award level (equivalent to two ‘A’ Levels) and Art & Design.

In addition to Michael, a further six students were celebrating two A* grades, while a number of other students achieved one A* grade.

St Patrick’s College Principal Mrs Cate Magee congratulated all of her ‘A’ Level students on their very high level of achievement.

“The A* grade was introduced a number of years ago at GCSE level and last year at ‘A’ Level to recognise achievement at the very highest level. I am delighted to see so many of our students achieving at this top level and it is testament to the effort that they and their teachers have put into their ‘A’ Level work over the past two years.

“Overall, over 20% of the grades achieved by our Year 14 students were at the A* grade. Nine of our students have achieved at least two A grades out of their three A Levels.

“The percentage of our Year 14 students achieving three ‘A’ Level grades at A* to C has improved by six per cent this year, and is part of a continuing ongoing trend of increased achievement in our school.

“I am delighted to say that our students have once again improved their performance and have achieved excellent results in their AS and A2 examinations.

“A number of our Sixth Form students came to us from other schools when they had completed their GCSE courses and their success at ‘A’ Level shows how well they settle into life here at St Patrick’s,” she said.

Mrs Magee congratulated and thanked her staff for the support, guidance and advice they have given the school’s young people during their ‘A’ Level studies. She further congratulated the students’ parents, who have provided unfailing support to their children during this very busy two year period.

Further success has been achieved at AS Level, where St Patrick’s students have completed a highly successful first year of their ‘A’ Level courses.

The percentage of AS Level students achieving three grades at A to C has further improved by 13% this year, an outstanding achievement on the part of both students and teachers.

Thirty-four A grades and 22 B grades have been achieved by Year 13 students in the College, and Mrs Magee also offered her congratulations to these students: “The very high level of success achieved by these young people in the first year of their ‘A’ Level programmes gives them every encouragement to go on and achieve further success next year in their A2 year”.

Mrs Magee also pointed to the outstanding success of the College’s Year 13 Transition Course students, nine of whom have achieved Level 3 in their Certificate of Personal Effectiveness (CoPE) course, an award worth 70 UCAS points (roughly equivalent to an A grade at AS Level).

“I congratulate our Transition Course students on the outstanding success they have achieved in this course’s first year of operation. This course has equipped the students with a number of valuable qualifications, including CoPE, which they will use to progress to the next stage of their education, either here at St Patrick’s or in Further Education.”

Mrs Magee concluded by wishing the Sixth Form students who will be leaving the College this year every success in the future as they move on to Further and Higher Education and into the world of work.

She thanked them for the outstanding contribution they have made to the life of the school, and also for the example they have given younger pupils at St Patrick’s, through their excellent academic performance, their work as Pupil Mentors to the younger pupils and the many other ways in which they have taken part in the life of the school and lived out the school’s Mission Statement of living and practising their faith and their commitment to one another.

She said: They have been outstanding role models to the other pupils and exemplary young people, and we at St Patrick’s College wish all of them every success in the future.”
