Worthy exam achievements at Dunclug College

The Principal of Dunclug College, Mrs. Ruth Wilson, has congratulated GCSE students whose performance at GCSE has increased by 10% or more in several categories.

The most notable improvement has been in those gaining five or more GCSE subjects at Grades A – C, including English and Maths. While 52% achieved five A – C grades, 90% achieved five subjects in the A – E category, also including English and Maths, and almost 100% achieved 5 grades A – G.

GCSE is the gateway both to further education and employment, and Mrs Wilson thanked the teaching staff for their commitment to the young people in ensuring good target setting and appropriate career planning, and also the parents for working effectively in partnership with the school.

Examples of the highest achieving pupils, each achieving eight or nine top grades, were: Gary Lanigan, Caroline Fleck, Julie Simpson, Sarah Termonia, Iain Wright, Lauren Gordon, Lauren Fry, Sarah Kennedy, Andrew Kerr, Adam Coulter, Clare Stevenson, William Moorhead, Joseph McCracken, Naomi Archer, Shaunagh Brennan, Emma Buick and Emma-Jayne Lavery. The majority of Year 12 students will be returning to undertake A Level study.

Examples of subjects in which there was particular success at GCSE Grades A* - C, included: English Literature 100%; Horse Care 100%; Agriculture 100%, Double Award Science 94%, Art & Design 91%, Drama 83%, Single Award Science 80%, Resistant Materials, 80%, Engineering 75%, Music 75%, Information Technology 73%, Design & Technology 68%, Office Technology 66%, French 63% and Occupational Studies (Level 2) 62%.
