Ballymena cousins raised more than £2400 for kids with cancer

They set out from the Town Hall at 4.30am on August 1, supported by families and friends, arriving at 9.40pm to Dublin Airport.

Blane cycled the entire journey, younger cousin Tyler covered 70 miles and a dozen friends and relatives completed the rest of Tyler’s miles in relay.

A family spokesperson said: “This has been a major achievement for Tyler who, at 12 years old, was diagnosed with Yolk Sac Tumour. After undoing chemotherapy, he has been in remission now for less than two years”.

His 21-year-old cousin, Blane, has just returned from his second tour of Afghanistan serving with the 1 Royal Irish.

While out there, and having attended the Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children’s Spring Ball in Tullyglass, Blane decided he wanted to do something to support the work of the charity and together with Tyler came up with the idea of a bike ride.

The duo have thanked all those who sponsored them to the tune of £2,167 and to those who have donated on line (by going to www.justgiving.com and typing in Blane Millar). .

Thanks have also been extended to the charity for the use of a minibus for the day and to photographer Darren Cumberland for the use of his van to transport the bikes home.
