The Safe Place initiative is a simple way for organisations to provide information and signposting to anyone affected by domestic abuse.

Safe Place is supported by a wide range of businesses, retailers, employers, schools, community groups, sports clubs and churches.

Safe Place was launched by Onus on a regional basis in February 2011 and Women’s Aid ABCLN is an Onus Safe Place Partner.

Women’s Aid ABCLN (Antrim, Ballymena, Carrickfergus, Larne & Newtownabbey) Communications Officer, Arlene Creighton said: “Any organisation can become a Safe Place.

“Join us for our online Safe Place information sessions during October and help raise awareness about domestic abuse.”

“Following Safe Place training, you will have the opportunity to register your organisation as a Safe Place and will be provided with a supply of Safe Place resources.

“As a registered Safe Place you will display the Safe Place logo. This indicates that information on services for anyone affected by domestic abuse is available on the premises and you can signpost people to the appropriate services.

“With one in four women affected by domestic abuse in their lifetime, staying silent is not an option.

“We want anyone affected by domestic abuse to know that you are not alone, Women’s Aid ABCLN is here for you and help is available.”

Safe Place information sessions will be delivered by Women’s Aid ABCLN and will take place on Tuesday, October 20; Wednesday, October 21; and, Friday, October 23, online from 11am -12.30pm.

Following the information session you will have the opportunity to register your business, organisation or community group as a Safe Place and be provided with a supply of Safe Place resources.

As a Safe Place you will display the Safe Place logo which indicates that information on services for anyone affected by domestic violence and abuse is available on the premises, organisations will not have to do anything beyond signposting people to the appropriate services.
