Although the summer is now over, Ahoghill YFC is as busy as ever with the new program underway.

In July, the stock judging finals for beef, sheep and dairy were held at Greenmount. The club had three members who made it through to the finals; Jane Cubitt, Michelle Petticrew and Jason Benton.

Michelle Petticrew came 5th in the 16-18 sheep category.

As the sports nights came to an end, Ahoghill Young Farmers Club was busy planning their annual BBQ.

The night was held on August 2 at the Hiltonstown Road with music from the band, The Mentors. Although it had been a wet day, a great crowd turned out on the night.

On August 19, club members Kirsty Speers and Rachael Chesney took part in a first aid course held by the YFCU at Greenmount and the club would like to congratulate the girls on becoming fully trained first aiders.

After months of fundraising, on Sunday, August 24, Ahoghill members Rachel Gillespie and Kirsty Speers took to the skies for a 13,000ft tandem skydive.

The sky dive was part of the YFCU’s 85th Anniversary celebrations to raise money for the charity Fields of Life who work to build hope by working with local communities and churches in East Africa to bring about positive change through the quality of education, clean water and other community based projects.

Between them, over £1000 was raised for the charity and they would like to thank anyone who sponsored them in this amazing experience.

As the summer has now drawn to a close, Ahoghill YFC’s winter program has started.

The first club meeting took place on Tuesday, September 2 in Gracehill Primary School.

The night started off with hearing about the upcoming competitions such as swimming gala, public speaking and floral art.

This was followed by games and ice breakers to get to know other club members.

Six new members came to this first club meeting and the night was finished off with a BBQ.

Any more new members will be made most welcome at the club’s meetings, held on the first and third Tuesday of every month in Gracehill Primary School at 8pm.
