Busy times for Kells & Connor Young Farmers Club

Kells and Connor Young Famers have been kept busy over the winter months.

Meetings this year have included an exchange night with Moycraig YFC, Roving Supper, St. John Ambulance talk to the latest meeting was a trip to the Donkey Sanctuary in Belfast.

The donkey sanctuary provides assisted therapy to children with needs and disabilities and they take donkeys to residential homes to the elderly suffering with dementia. The donkey sanctuary is a charity and relies on donations and volunteers just like the Young Farmers’ Clubs of Ulster.

The club held their AGM on January 30 which saw the following members take position on the committee:

Club President- William Robert Graham; Club Patron- Ann O’Neill; Club Leader- Alexander Currie; Assistant Club Leader- Kayleigh Pennie; Club Secretary- Peter McWhirter; Assistant Secretary- Rachel Davidson; Treasurer- Rachel Barr; Assistant Treasurer- Stephanie Wylie; PRO- Hannah Currie; Catering Officer- Hannah Montgomery; Council Representative- Andrew White; UFU Rep- John Coulter; Sports Co-ordinators- Rebecca Currie and Alex Wylie; Stock Judging Co- ordinators- David Fullerton and Davy Graham; Additional Committee members- Andrew Stirling, Emma McKay, Anna Mawhinney, Clare Mawhinney, Gemma Young, Lyndsey Montgomery and Jessica Warwick.

The club would like to thank Janette Stirling for chairing their AGM and giving the members a very informative talk about the Young Famers clubs of Ulster and the opportunities available to them.

Kells and Connor have had a lot of success over the past few months. Alex Wylie, Emma McKay, Jessica Warwick, Rachel Davidson, Alexander Currie and Andrew White got through to the second round of the Ulster Young Famer competition. Rachel Barr was placed first in the YFCU Art Competition in the 16-25 age group and Hannah Currie was placed third and Club Secretary Peter McWhirter got through to the second round for best secretary in County Antrim.

The most recent success for the club has been getting placed fourth for Club of the Year in the County Antrim Efficiency competiton.

Kells and Connor are holding their annual Parents and Friends Evening on Friday, April 18 in Fernisky Orange Hall at 7.30pm.

Everyone is welcome to come along and join the club to finish off a very busy and successful year.
