Calling all cat lovers

CAT LOVERS in Ballymena are being invited to volunteer with the UK’s leading feline welfare charity, Cats Protection.Cats Protection offers free talks to the public including adult talks, interactive workshops for 4 to 11 year olds in schools, youth groups and clubs across the country in an effort to increase awareness amongst young people of the correct needs and treatment of cats as both pets and strays, help raise awareness about cat health, so that kittens and cats in Northern Ireland can live happy and healthy lives.

The charity is calling on anyone with a passion for the furry felines, who wants to help make a difference, to volunteer and help educate the public. As an education volunteer with Cats Protection, you will learn many new and beneficial skills (that could help in future employment) - communication, team work, public speaking - to name but a few. You will be part of a wider enthusiastic team committed to cat welfare and you will be making a real difference by educating the adults of tomorrow on the proper treatment of cats. All volunteer expenses are covered.

Claire Goodwin, Education Officer for Cats Protection in Northern Ireland, said: “I call upon anyone with a love and interest in cats to volunteer with the education aspect of the charity and help make a big difference. 2011 is the European Year of Volunteering and is the perfect occasion to take on a new challenge.

Volunteers are important to us throughout the charity, but especially in the education sector, as without them we would not be able to reach out to as many areas as we would like.

“We do not ask for a major commitment of time from our volunteers. You can help out for as little or as long as you want, we are just grateful of any donation of your time. The typical workshop runs for just 40 minutes.
