Skoda Octavia iV hybrid launched with £30,765 pricetag and 282mpg claims

Skoda has announced pricing and technical details of its new Octavia iV plug-in hybrid.

Priced from £30,765 and with orders opening on November 3, the iV is one of two plug-in variants and is the brand’s most fuel efficient car ever, offering between 188mpg and 282mpg under WLTP testing. CO2 emissions have been measured at 22-33g/km.

The Octavia iV uses a 127bhp 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine and an 85kW electric motor to offer combined power of 201bhp and 258lb ft of torque. The hybrid system is the same as that used in the larger Superb iV and the Octavia vRS iV. Under most conditions the hybrid system power is limited to 148bhp, boosted to the full 201bhp in Sport mode or by activating the kickdown function.

A 13kWh battery offers all-electric driving range of up to 43 miles, with a range of driving modes allowing owners to prioritise electric, petrol or hybrid drive modes and set a minimum battery reserve. A 3.6kW onboard charging system will allow a full charge in three and a half hours via a regular three-pin domestic electricity socket.

At launch the Octavia iV will be available in two trim levels and hatchback or estate body styles. SE Technology cars cost £30,765 in hatchback form and £31,745 for the estate. SE L spec costs an additional £1,760 in hatch and £1,860 more in estate form. All iV models use a six-speed DSG gearbox and feature 18-inch Vego Aero alloy wheels, decorative door sills and unique instrumentation and displays.

The regular Octavia range starts at £22,390 and offers petrol, diesel and mild hybrid drivetrains in addition to the iV’s hybrid setup. Among new technology offered by the latest model are a head-up display for the first time, a 10-inch touchscreen with Skoda’s voice-activated Laura assistant, smartphone integration and adaptive lane assist which can recognise and respond to roadworks as well as regular road markings.

The vRS iV is available to order now, with a 242bhp version of the iV drivetrain, matching the output of the petrol vRS. Despite offering a 0-62mph time of 7.3 seconds, WLTP testing puts the vRS’s economy at up to 256mpg and CO2 emissions at 26-26g/km. Priced from £35,020 to £36,220 it is also available in hatch and estate body styles.
