Mr Durkan said: “As we look forward to the upcoming long weekend, we cannot afford to be complacent. More children will be walking and cycling and many families will be out and about enjoying the break. And there is likely to be increased cyclists and motorcyclists enjoying the better weather.

“Collectively, as road users, we are making thousands of decisions everyday that save lives. Both our own, and the lives of those around us.

“We are all responsible for our own behaviour: drivers, passengers, motorcyclists, pedestrians and cyclists.

“Be aware of the dangers; it only takes one bad choice to ruin a life. I ask all road users to remember you are responsible, not only for your own safety but for the safety of others. Respect Everyone’s Journey.”
