Hillstown FarmShop’s FamilyFun Day is back

The Glebe Road Farm Shop will be opening its doors for a family fun day.

Why not look out your old wellies and bring them along for the world championships welly throwing contest to win the golden boot, open to all ages.

This year’s eating contest is going to be really simple, it’s Northern Ireland’s first Bush Tucker Trial, just identify the different foods and eat the gourmet delights placed in front of you, no speed required.

Give the shop a call and get your name down if you’re brave enough, a super prize of six Beer Fed Steaks go to the winner.

Other activities on the day include free bouncy castles and assault course, an all day BBQ and Burger Bar, with the chance to sample lots of the farmshop’s delicious goods. Also new this year will be the Tractor Trailer rides all day to meet and feed the animals in the field.

Located just outside Ahoghill, near Whiteside’s Corner, the Logan family business puts their success down to quality produce - all lamb, pork and beef sold in the shop has been born and raised on the family’s adjoining farm.

The beef is dry aged on the bone for a minimum of 28 days, producing beef which is tender and tasting just as beef should.

Rare breed Saddleback pigs provide the pork, with the breed renowned for producing pork which is succulent and tasty.

Free range Black Rock hens wander around the farm providing fresh free range eggs every day.

The farm shop also stocks a wide range of products including fruit, vegetables, milk, jams, tray bakes, and is now selling cooked free range chickens, homemade pies, desserts and sausage rolls.

And, as the saying goes, the proof is in the pudding with Hillstown Farmshop accredited with numerous awards including NI Gourmet Pork Sausage Champion four years running, Elite Butcher’s Cup for Outstanding Achievement, and a top 10 finish is the UK sausage finals.

Hillstown also received two Gold Stars in the recent Great Taste Awards for their sticky toffee pudding.

Whether you want to tempt your taste buds, impress your friends or turn out a dinner to remember, Hillstown Farm Shop has all the ingredients to ensure a successful outcome.

This year they have opened a Farm Cafe where chefs cook the great food produced on the farm and bring in from the best local artisan food producers.

Hillstown also run a monthly Steak Night, usually the first Saturday in every month where you can treat yourself to our home farm produced.

The shop has an exciting future ahead, building a new brewery is Nigel’s latest adventure. It will be in partnership with the owner of www.geterbrewed.com, an online shop for home brew kits so at least they will have someone with brewing experience on board.
