Jack Pakenham exhibition at Clotworthy House

‘Here It Is, 1975 – 2013’ will be on display at the Oriel Gallery, Antrim Castle Gardens until Friday, November 28.

In ‘Here It Is’, Jack Pakenham explores the conflict between the individual and the divided society that constitutes everyday life in Northern Ireland.

Pakenham’s early expressionist work evolved, with the outbreak of ‘The Troubles’, into an engaged, ferocious response to communal violence.

Describing his work, Jack said: “Over the years I have tried to convey through a poetic language of metaphor, symbol, allegory and ambiguous narrative, some of my concerns and anxieties, to use visual language to expose and comment.”

Jack has exhibited widely, including solo shows at the Orchard Gallery, Derry; Project Arts Centre, Dublin and the Wyvern Gallery, Dublin.

In 1987 he was elected an academian by the Royal Ulster Academy and his work has recently been seen in the ‘Art of the Troubles’ exhibition at the Ulster Museum.

Cathy Brown, Arts Officer with Antrim Borough Council, said: “We are delighted to welcome Jack Pakenham, one of the leading figures in art in Northern Ireland, to exhibit at the Oriel Gallery and to take a look back at a career of almost 30 years.”
