Liam’s still boxing clever

HE may have six decades on the clock but Ballymena born actor is still boxing clever, he’s revealed in an interview with Irish Tatler Man.

A frantic work schedule, not to mention to two teenage sons, yet Liam Neeson shows no signs of wear and tear and has no intention of slowing down anytime soon.

2012 sees five movies starring Neeson coming out including The Grey, Wrath of the Titans and Battleship as well as the high anticipated Batman finale The Dark Knight Rises and A Walk Among the Tombstones an adaptation of Lawrence Block’s crime novel.

Since the tragic death of his wife Natasha Richardson in a skiing accident three years ago it seems like Neeson has thrown himself into work to escape his grief, something the Ballymena man has admitted in the past “I think I survived by running away some. Running away to my work”.

His 2008 film Taken saw him established as an action character, something he revelled in.

“With the success of Taken my agent started sending me these action scripts, you know. I have to say I love getting the chance to be physical and I love doing all that fighting – it appeals to the little boy in me!”

It is little wonder then that Neeson is in no hurry to call time on doing action roles. “As long as my knees hold up and my right shoulder holds up I will do them –that’s maybe for another two years. I turn 60 this summer so maybe beyond 62 might be pushing it a little”.

A keen boxer when he was younger Neeson still incorporates it into his daily exercise regimes to help him stay in good shape.

He said: “I’m very healthy, I was a boxer as a kid and I keep up that sort of stuff. It’s part of my daily regimen to do something either in the gym or in the park. I have a little gym in my home, which has saved my life, literally saved me”.

Something surprising that he reveals is that he is not a fan of 3D movies and states that he thinks it’s a fad that won’t last the test of time.

“I have to say, I personally am not a fan of 3D. I love flat screen and what I do love is the quality of sound nowadays. It’s phenomenal. That’s what gives me goose bumps on the back of my neck far more than 3D which I think is a fad”.
