When Mike Denver released ‘Tommy K’ at the start of the summer he little realised that he had the biggest hit ever on his hands.
Since this catchy, bouncy tune has caught fire, Mike’s crowds have soared at his dancing appearances, his band have now become one of the very top attractions in the country and he has further cemented his reputation in Ulster in particular.
And it’s to this province that he returns on Saturday night next – to the Tullyglass House Hotel, Ballymena to be precise - with his dynamic show that has been taking Ireland by storm since ‘Tommy K’ stormed up the country charts.
The song is a tribute to a well-known DJ who attained fame at the height of the showband boom and in doing so carved out a special niche for himself in the annals of Irish entertainment.
“He was just known as Tommy K and that to me is a fitting title for a song which I think encapsulates all the good work he accomplished for entertainment times were not that good,” Mike said.
He gives the song his own inimitable treatment – so much so, indeed, that it is now the highlight of his sophisticated stage show.
And that’s certain to prove the case again on Saturday night when the Tullyglass Hotel becomes the latest port of call for Mike and his hard-working band.
Mike said: “It’s great to be coming back to the Tullyglass, one of the best venues in the country in my estimation. We hope to meet many old friends and make new ones there.”
Not only does Mike retain a generous ration of quality country material in his show but he also lays on an impressive 60s segment that hints at his versatility and desire to cater for even the most discerning music tastes.
Patrons are advised to arrive early at the Tullyglass House Hotel where admission to the dance will be £12 with an attractive dine and dance package also on offer.
