Old Courthouse to welcome acting star

Antrim Borough Council is thrilled to play host to stage and screen legend Timothy West as he commemorates the centenary of the start of the First World War with a stunning show called The Pity of War.

The Clive Conway Production takes place at The Old Courthouse, Antrim on Sunday, January 19 at 7.30pm.

West will read from the letters and poems of Wilfred Owen which reveal the essence and courage of humanity triumphing over the worst possible conditions of war.

The readings are interspersed with original recordings of wartime music hall songs, which would have been familiar to every soldier on the Western Front.

Live performances of sonatas by Elgar and Debussy will be performed by internationally renowned musicians Matthew Trussler and Martin Roscoe.

Timothy West is one of Britain’s most well-known actors. A giant of the stage, his work with the Royal Shakespeare Company is legendary.

He has also been seen in a host of classic film and television dramas, including The Day of the Jackal, Brass and A Very Peculiar Practice and most recently, he has been seen playing Eric Babbage in Coronation Street.
