Patricia’s a cut above!

IT’S certainly been quite a year for local hairstylist Patricia Dawson who spent the last 12 months training with hairdressing giants Clynol as one of their newest stars.

Patricia went out with a bang – styling a fabulous photo shoot and putting into practice everything that she had learnt throughout her year as a hair protégé.

A year ago the young stylist from The Sitting Room in Ballymena was an ambitious hairdresser looking for her big break. A year on, she’s set to be one of the most talked about names in the industry.

Her journey with Clynol began 12 months ago when Patricia was put forward by owner of The Sitting Room, Julian Dalrymple, for the competition to join Clynol’s young creative team.

Patricia won her place after competing against hundreds of young hopefuls to join the seven-piece team and has now definitely set herself apart as one to watch.

During the year Patricia has travelled to London for several intensive courses on colouring, styling and cutting at Clynol’s ASK Academy, as well as learning to present as a hairdresser live on stage, which Patricia and the team put into practice at the Clynol Profile Weekend. There they presented themselves live on stage for hairdressers from all over the country to see.

This year the team was mentored by Clynol Protégé Team Manager Jamie Farrar and Scottish Hairdresser of the Year for three consecutive years Tracey Devine.

Taught by the crème de la crème of hairdressing including the likes of Adam Bryant and Sharon Peake, the intensive course is one of the most highly rated for young hairdressers in the UK.

On the day of the shoot, working with a team of experts, renowned photographer John Rawson; make-up artist Lee Peason, exquisite clothes stylist Clare Frith and PR specialist Louise Wood, Patricia and the Clynol Protégé Team created a fabulous photographic collection, putting into practice all that they had learnt throughout the year as a celebration of their hard work and dedication.

Inspired by the latest trend contrasts between masculine and feminine teamed with an urban, industrial influenced setting, the Clynol Protégé Team brought to life iconic looks with attitude and were rewarded with some truly outstanding shots. It was a fantastic day and brilliant way to end a great year.

Patricia said: “We’ve had a really amazing year. I’ve loved it all and the shoot was definitely the highlight. We’ve learnt so much from Tracey Devine, presented at the Clynol Profile Weekend and styled our very own photo shoot.

“It doesn’t get much better than this. Plus, we’ve all got on so well... I’ve made some great friends!

“I’d recommend joining the Clynol Protégé Team to any young stylists hoping to make their mark in the industry. I’ve learnt so much about the photographic and creative side of hairdressing as well as the importance of keeping up the social and personable side in the salon.

“The key is to read up on everything, take every opportunity that comes your way and go for as many courses and competitions as you can. Do all you can to get to where you want to be and enjoy it.”

Although Patricia’s journey with the Protégé Team has come to an end, her budding career is only just beginning. So watch this space and remember the name Patricia Dawson, as you’ll be hearing it a lot more over the next few years.
