Local students have been celebrated and recognised for outstanding success in their CCEA examinations at a special award ceremony at Titanic Belfast.
The local students from Ballymena Academy, Cullybackey College and the Northern Regional College were among 82 young people, who were recognised at the ‘Celebrate with CCEA Awards’ ceremony which celebrated learners who displayed outstanding achievement, dedication and commitment in their CCEA examinations.
They were: Ballymena Academy pupil Jonathan Loughridge who was awarded a CCEA award for first place in Northern Ireland in GCSE Construction; Alice Kennedy of Cullybackey College who received her award for first place in GCSE Hospitality; Stewart Morrow of Northern Regional College who received his award for Learner of the Year 2015 for Occupational Studies: Business and Services; Northern Regional College Ballymena student Bailey McCrea who received his award for Learner of the Year 2015, for Occupational Studies: Technology and Innovation; and Northern Regional College Ballymena student Padraig McKendry received his award for Learner of the Year 2015, for Occupational Studies: Technology and Innovation.
CCEA’s Chief Executive, Justin Edwards met each of the winners on their arrival and spoke at the event ceremony where 450 guests, including parents, principals and teachers, heard him congratulate the learners for their achievements.
Addressing the packed gathering, Mr Edwards said: “This year’s inclusive event gives a sense of the range of wonderful achievements by learners from across the education system.
“The hard work, perseverance, and personal qualities are what set these learners apart and why we are celebrating their success.
“Well done to all of our winners, and to all of the people who have played their part in their success,” he said.
