Warning after dog attack on livestock

Dog owners have been urged to keep control of their animal to stop attacks on livestock after a ewe was killed in an attack last month.

The calls were made following an incident in December where two dogs attacked sheep, killing one ewe.

Alderman Robin Cherry told members at Thursday’s meeting that this was becoming a very serious problem and said similar incidents had occurred on his neighbours property.

He said: “They must keep these dogs under control even if the owners are farmers, they should know how to look after them and make sure they don’t get out.”

The farmer shot one of the dogs and he witnessed the other dog returned to a neighbouring property.

Members agreed that the dog owner will receive a formal caution in relation to the incident.
