'˜Act of reflection' for Battle of the Somme

Ballymena Memorial Park will be the setting for a service marking the 100th anniversary of the first day of the horrendous Battle of the Somme on July 1 from 7-8.30pm.

Permission was granted by Mid & East Antrim Council to the 1st July Commemoration Committee for the event which will take the form of a small service of reflection. Around 5,500 men from the 36th (Ulster) Division were killed, wounded or missing on that day. Total British casualties were 60,000.
