Agnes bids farewell to Show duties

BALLYMENA Show has said farewell to one of its most loyal volunteers.

Agnes Dickey has retired after more than 30 years’ service to the Show as chairperson of the Home Industries section.

Agnes became involved in the Show scene by exhibiting her baking and was renowned for her apple tarts, having won first prize in a class of 96 entries – no mean achievement!

She was elected on to the Home Industries sub-committee for Ballymena Show in 1975 and later became chairperson, dedicating many hours to the efficient running of this section.

The Home Industries section at agricultural shows has seen many changes with less baking and more computer design but arts and crafts remain ever popular with something for everyone from ceramics to painting, jewellery making, poetry etc.

Members of the County Antrim Agricultural Association would like to convey their gratitude to Agnes and wish her a long and happy retirement.
