Ahoghill celebrating '˜Ulster in Bloom' success

Ahoghill scooped the prestigious Small Town Award at a special celebration ceremony, held in Belfast Harbour Commissioner’s Office.

Deputy Mayor of Mid and East Antrim Borough, Councillor Timothy Gaston, was on hand to receive the awards.

He said: “We excelled as a Borough with two main winners’ awards and no less than three runner-up accolades.

“On top of other past successes such as the national Britain in Bloom and the prestigious international Communities in Bloom competition, this means we are a major player in floral excellence, locally and worldwide,” the Deputy Mayor added.

As well as Ahoghill, there was further success for neighbouring towns and villages within Mid and East Antrim Borough Council area in a number of different categories.

Whitehead followed up its success in the Community Rail Halt Award last year by retaining the crown this time around.

As well as the two top Ulster in Bloom awards, Carrickfergus was placed second in the Large Town category and the town of Whitehead was also a runner-up in the Small Town category.

Cullybackey Rail Halt was second in the Community Rail Halt awards.

The Translink Ulster in Bloom Competition is organised by the Northern Ireland local Government Association (NILGA).
