Ahoghill two-year-old inspires fund-raising for Great Ormonde Street

THE mother of a little girl with a craniofacial condition has presented cheques totalling £3,200 to Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) to enable the purchase of a very important piece of medical equipment.

The money was raised by donations in lieu of gifts for Ahoghill mum Julie Philpott on her birthday, also by local man Andrew Han for his fund-raising run of the Belfast Marathon and by a personal donation from Philomena Magill, a relative of Julie’s who lives in London.

Philomena joined with Julie and her daughter, Jessica, recently to hand over the sizeable cheques to Mr Rob Evans, Craniofacial Surgeon, and Kathy Truscott, Craniofacial Clinical Nurse Specialist, at GOSH.

The money will be used to purchase a ‘Red Frame’, a piece of equipment which allows children with craniofacial conditions, such as Jessica, to have their facial features moved forward for medical and cosmetic purposes.

Aged just two, Jessica has travelled over to GOSH for check-ups, treatment and operations 23 times since birth.

She suffers from Apert Syndrome which is a condition affecting the development of the head and limbs.

Julie and her family have extended their heartfelt thanks to all who helped raise the money and who supported their fund raising efforts in any way.
