Ahoghill WI birthday dinner

Ahoghill Women's Institute held their 67th birthday dinner in the Four Seasons Restaurant at Galgorm Resort and Spa last week.

President Marbeth Hill gave a warm welcome to members and their guests and extended sincere sympathy to Frances Simpson on the recent death of her husband Sam, and to Yvonne Reid on the death of her mother.

The Jane Black Golden Jubilee cup was awarded to Alma Suthers, the runner up was Jean Graham. The shield for the quiz was won by the team who were runners up in the Slemish area final, Alma Suthers, Ruth Clarke and Liz Gardiner.

The bowls shield was awarded to Jean Clarke who was second in the Slemish area bowls final.

A gift was presented to Eileen McFall in appreciation of her work over many years, in distributing the institute’s tea parcels to the elderly in the village.

Gifts were also presented to Mary Kernohan and Margaret Kyle who will continue this task.

Brian Rankin, well known raconteur, was given a warm welcome. He provided entertainment in his usual inimitable style.

Ruth Clarke proposed a vote of thanks to everyone involved in making the birthday party such a success.
