£1.4 million set aside for major local projects

The announcement comes after members for the electoral wards of The Braid, Ballymena, and Bannside, met recently to discuss a number of ongoing issues in relation to development of the Ballymena district.

Mayor of Mid & East Antrim Borough, Councillor Audrey Wales MBE, said: “It was agreed that capital funding would be redirected to allow a number of these projects to be brought forward as soon as possible, subject to feasibility and business cases being agreed.

“These projects will follow normal process and will have business cases and implementation plans agreed prior to commencement. These schemes include new community spaces, additional exercise spaces and improvement of public facilities.

“Mid & East Antrim Borough Council is committed to continually improving and developing our Borough and this capital plan funding will help us achieve this vision.”

The projects benefitting from the funding include an extension to Clough Cemetery, refurbishment of the former Raglan Bar for use by the Credit Union, development of a community space in Cargan, refurbishment of facilities at Dunfane Pavilion, provision of a green gym and MUGA at Cullybackey and development of a series of allotments for community use in Harryville.
