Atkinson clucks up O'Kane Poultry victory at Galgorm

EIGHTEEN handicapper Brian McFall jnr. led Adrian Atkinson (10), Colin Steel (5) and William McKigney (26) by one, two and three points respectively at the turn in the O'Kane Poultry Ltd-sponsored Stableford Competition at Galgorm Castle Golf Club.

Through 13, McFall jnr was joined by Atkinson followed by McKigney one point behind. Another point behind came Steel.

With two to play McKigney, who was having a great run on the back nine, joined Atkinson in the lead. McFall jnr ‘dinged’ 16 and found himself one point behind with Steel (playing par golf) falling back by another two points.

Steel finished par, birdie to join McKigney (two double bogeys) and McFall jnr (two bogeys) but Atkinson, with two pars, was not to be denied and took the Overall Winner’s prize two points clear of McKigney (better back nine) in the Runner-up position.

In Division 1 at halfway Willie Park (6) and Michael Reid (2) were two points ahead of Colin Steel (5) and Liam Reilly jnr (0).

After 12, Reid was leading Reilly jnr by one point with Steel and Park another point behind. Through 15, Reid had increased his lead to two points from Steel, Park and Reilly jnr.

Steel finished par, par, birdie to take first place. A point behind came Park (three pars) and Reid (par, bogey, par) and with a better back six Park finished second with Reid third. Reilly jnr, although finishing with three pars, just missed a place by one point.

In Division 2 at the turn David Bamford (12) was one point ahead of George Watt (14) with Gareth Beckington (14) and Jackson Minford (14) at one point intervals respectively further behind.

The lead changed through 13 when Watt took over to lead by one point from Beckington with Bamford falling back (‘ding’ on 11) another point away but one point ahead of Minford.

Three holes further on Watt was joined by Beckington in the lead. One point behind came Bamford with Minford another point behind.

Beckington took first place with Bamford second. A point behind came Minford (bogey, par) and Watt (double bogey, bogey) and with a better back nine, Minford finished third.

In Division 3 Brian McFall jnr (18) was one point ahead of Paul McKee (19) and Seamus Laverty (18) with William Wilson (17) three points further away. Jim Millar (21) was two points behind Wilson at this stage.

After 13, McFall jnr had increased his lead to two points from McKee (‘ding’ on ten) and an improving Millar. Laverty (‘ding’ at 13) was another two points behind with Wilson (‘ding’ at 11) two more points down.

With two to play McFall jnr, who had been leading by four points, found his lead cut to two points when he ‘dinged’ 16. McKee was in second position with Laverty another point behind. Millar who hit a spell of bogey trouble was another point away along with Wilson.

McFall (two bogeys) came home in first place three points ahead of McKee (double bogey, bogey) with Millar finishing bogey, par to take third place another point behind.

Laverty (bogey, double bogey) and Wilson (par, bogey) finished together a further point behind.

David Kernohan (+2) won the Gross with 38 gr. pts and Jack Douglas took the Seniors with 37 pts.
