Ballymena bonanza in birthday honours list!

It was a case of ‘gongs galore’ for the Ballymena area in the Queen’s Birthday Honours!

In an ‘average’ year, most towns would be expecting to see two or perhaps three people receive recognition.

But the 2015 list shows the names of no less than six people with close ties to this area.

Three people have been awarded the OBE. They are:-

Dr. David Johnston of Gracehill who received his honour for ‘services to the community and service in the Built Heritage’ sector.

Mr. Mark Nodder, Chief Executive and Chairman of Wrightbus for services to the economy in Northern Ireland.

Mr. William Kerr, Assistant Chief Constable of the PSNI, who is originally from Ballymena and is a former district commander.

In receipt of the MBE are:-

Mr. William John (Jack) Kernohan for services to the bus industry and specifically in the marketing and sales development of low floor easy access buses during his long career at Wrightbus.

Mrs. Lynn McBurney, Vice Chair of the Board of Governors of Moorfields Primary School and governor, Dunclug College for services to education.

Mr. Herbert John Park for services to the community in Northern Ireland.
