Banned for drink-driving

A BALLYMENA man has been banned from driving for 14 months for drink-driving.

Christopher Henry (29), of Inchkeith Road, was also fined 300 after admitting a charge of driving with excess alcohol, when he appeared at Ballymena Magistrates Court.

The court was told that Henry was stopped by police carrying out road traffic duties at Linenhall Street in the early hours of August 22.

He failed a preliminary breath test and later provided a specimen with a concentration of 90 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath - the legal limit is 35/100.

Solicitor David McIlrath said Henry made “no fanciful excuses” adding that the defendant had consumed “a few cans of beer”.

“His employment is in jeopardy because of the loss of his licence,” the solicitor added.

District Judge Rosalie Prytherch slammed Henry for his “very high reading”.

“You went out in the car over the limit which is inexcusable - I don’t think ‘a few beers’ adequately describes what you had consumed,” the judge added.
