Beth nominated to fill Council vacancy

THERE could be a new face in the chamber at Ballymena Borough Council's Ardeevin HQ come September.

Beth Clyde has been nominated by the DUP to fill the vacancy on Council left by William Wilkinson.

Wilkinson, a former DUP Councillor, is currently serving a seven year prison sentence.

Cllr Paul Frew MLA for North Antrim, who is the Chairman of the DUP Local Government Association in Ballymena, and Cllr Maurice Mills the Mayor of Ballymena, who is the Secretary of the DUP Local Government Association, were in Ardeevin on Friday morning to welcome Beth Clyde when she came to sign the relevant documents and to meet with Anne Donaghy the Chief Executive and Town Clerk of the council.

Beth Clyde was nominated by Peter Robinson MLA, the Leader of the DUP and First Minister, and will represent the Braid Electoral Area alongside Cllr Frew and Ald Sam Hanna.

Beth Clyde stated: "I have lived in the Braid area most of my life, I work in the village of Broughshane, I know the people of the area and I will try my very best for all the people of the Braid, representing them in the chamber and working hard on constituency work to try and make a difference to people's lives.

"I thank the party for giving me this opportunity and I will endeavour to be an asset to the party and the people".

Cllr Paul Frew said that he was delighted for Beth who he has known for some time.

"Beth Clyde is going to make a great Councillor and will be part of a great team in the Braid with myself and Sam Hanna and she will be a great asset to the DUP group in Council and to the Council as a whole," he said.
