Bill and friends raise superb £5000 for Parkinson’s charity

LOCAL author Bill Canning has raised an incredible total of over £5000 for the local branch of Parkinson’s UK

Former Regional Chairman of Parkinson’s UK, Bill retired four years and decided to keep busy and over the past 12 months he has raised £5,024.98 for the charity.

Incredibly Bill raised this total through the simple method of “just collecting among a few friends.”

The cheque was presented to the local branch at their Annual Christmas Dinner in the Tullyglass Hotel last week.

Bill worked in the Health Service before becoming the Regional Chairman of Parkinson’s UK, he told the Times that he had always wanted to work for a charity.

“After retiring I just wanted to keep busy, so over the past year or so I have been collecting money for the organisation. They do such good work and I just raised the money by collecting it from a few friends and I presented it to them recently,” he said.

Since retiring he has kept active by writing a few books on local history and he said there might be another in the pipeline.
