Boiler Replacement Scheme to continue with £2m investment: Storey

The scheme – which helps people who own their own homes to upgrade their existing boiler - was due to come to an end on March 31 this year.

However, this announcement will see the scheme extended for another year.

Mr Storey said: “The extension of the Boiler Replacement Scheme underlines my commitment to supporting people to reduce their energy costs and to maximise the energy efficiency of their homes.

“It has helped many households and I want it to help many more.”

Since the scheme was launched in September 2012, 18,500 boilers have been replaced and more than 2,000 installers have carried out installation work which has helped to boost the construction industry and the wider economy.

Mr Storey added: “Replacing an old and inefficient boiler can save households from £250 to £300 per year, but the financial savings are not the only benefit.

“Living in a warmer home contributes to your health and wellbeing and is vital for some of the most vulnerable in our society.

“I would encourage anyone who thinks they may be eligible for the scheme or who perhaps knows of a friend or family member who may qualify, to apply now.”

Under the scheme, owner-occupiers earning less than £40,000 gross income and who have a boiler at least 15 years old, are eligible to have it upgraded.

If eligible, grants of up to £1,000 are available to assist with either replacing an inefficient boiler for a more energy-efficient condensing oil or gas boiler, switching from oil to gas, or switching to a wood pellet boiler.
