The group of young people from across Antrim, Carrick and Newtownabbey, are off to Sisteron to broaden their horizons and meet other young Europeans involved in the Rural Development Programme.

The NI Rural Development Programme 2007-2013 has supported projects across Northern Ireland to stimulate the local rural economy, develop villages and rural tourism, preserve heritage and increase and improve the services for people living and working in a rural area.

GROW is one of seven rural development clusters across Northern Ireland and one of 2,224 Local Action Groups delivering funding across the European Europe.

The Rural Youth workshops are a cooperation project between GROW and 3 other Local Action Groups in France, Finland and Estonia, with the aim to engage young people in rural development and get to know other European cultures whilst boosting their skills.

Another group of 10 young people will be visiting Finland in August for the nature and photography workshop.

Next year they’ll be looking for more 14-17 year olds from rural areas of Antrim, Carrickfergus and Newtownabbey to visit Estonia to take part in a workshop on dance and local culture and if you’re a homebird, there will be a local workshop on the theme of music.
