Two of Mid and East Antrim Borough’s communities have been shortlisted for one of the best known national floral competitions, Britain in Bloom.
Glenarm is a finalist in the Village category while Ahoghill has been listed as a finalist in the Small Town category.
Mid and East Antrim Mayor, Councillor Billy Ashe said: “I look forward to hearing good news from the Britain in Bloom finals on Friday. Following the success of both villages at the international Communities in Bloom competition, we are in the running for another major award,” he said.
The results of Royal Horticultural Society’s (RHS) Britain in Bloom, will be revealed later this week, with the two local green-fingered communities anxiously awaiting the outcome.
This comes soon after both communities celebrated international success in the Communities in Bloom Awards announced at the finals of that prestigious competition in Canada and are now looking forward to the Britain in Bloom finals.
Many of the Borough’s residents have been busy creating stunning gardens and working in teams to brighten their streets with tubs, flower baskets and flower beds.
The best blooms across both villages were on show when the different judges toured both Glenarm and Ahoghill over the summer and the two groups of volunteers, Ahoghill in Bloom and Glenarm in Bloom are hoping for further successes.
The RHS Britain in Bloom UK Finals Awards ceremony is to take place in Sunderland.
This awards’ event provides finalists with the opportunity to celebrate their achievements of the past year and discover the results of the judges’ assessments.
The Mayor, Cllr. Ashe will be joined by Councillor Andrew Wilson, Chair of the Borough’s Operations Committee and local representatives from Ahoghill and Glenarm will also be in attendance.
