The Braid building is set to turn purple for 24 hours next month as a show of civic support for people living with epilepsy.

Last week, a Mid & East Antrim Council committee approved a request from Epilepsy Action NI to back ‘Purple Day’ and light up key buildings purple in the borough including the Braid and Smiley Buildings in Larne from Friday night, March 25, to Saturday, March 26.

The letter of request to Council pointed out that the aim was to raise awareness and understanding about the condition which affects around one in every 90 people in Northern Ireland.

Committee chairman Paul Maguire said that he understood, from personal family experience of the condition, the need to raise awareness and he was supported in that view by Cllr Beth Adger who proposed approval of the request.
