Bright times ahead for Kells & Connor

THE SUCCESS of a village duo's community effort to purchase street lights and festive illuminations mean there are bright times ahead for Kells and Connor.

Karen Hoey, secretary of Kells & Connor Community Improvement Association says that “the level of unprecedented support” has enabled the Association to adapt lamp posts to meet current health and safety regulations and purchase 14 Christmas light fittings.

She pointed out that in Christmas of 2008 Kells and Connor, unlike neighbouring villages, were without Christmas lights.

“This was due to additional Council health and safety issues and so from September 2009 the committee set out to rectify this problem.

“This included the adapting of lamp posts and the purchasing of new lights of a high quality which could be used for a number of years and could be added to in future years to improve the festive feel of the villages - which in this economic climate all agreed both villages were in need of plenty of Christmas cheer,” said Karen.

She paid tribute to Ballymena Borough Council for the funding which got their efforts off the ground and to the local businesses and organisations which also came to their aim, as well as the residents who gave their backing.

Special thanks were extended to her to A2B Cabs of Main Street Kells, The Buffs Club of Connor, Kells and Connor YFC, The Rosspark Hotel (Kells), Sizzler’s Chip Shop and Supervalu, both on the village’s Main Street.

She also thanked everyone who gave donations or supported in any way the various fund raising activities of the Committee including Stars in Your Eyes, Name the Bear and Fireside Quiz.

Karen added: “This project will be ongoing for a number of years as we endeavour to add to these each year - so look out for our next funding raising event and thanks to all for their support today and in the future”.
