Brooke Trophy success for Henry

AT the halfway point in the Brooke Trophy Medal played at Galgorm Castle Golf Club in inclement weather David Henry (24) had a one shot lead from Darren McLaughlin (10) and Campbell McAnally (12) with Alan Knox another shot behind.

He was followed by a trio of players another two shots away – Stephen McAuley (6), Wilson McVeigh (6) and Alec Wallace (12). Mark Turtle (9) was another shot behind with Trevor Monaghan (13) a further shot adrift.

Through 13 Henry was still ahead by one shot from McAnally followed by Knox, McLaughlin and McAuley two shots further behind.

Another two shots down came Turtle, McVeigh and Wallace. Monaghan was a further two shots behind.

With two holes to play Henry had increased his lead to two shots over McAnally. Then came Knox and McLaughlin at one shot intervals respectively behind. McAuley and an improving Monaghan came next another shot down. Turtle and Wallace were a further two shots down.

Henry held onto his lead for overall victory when he finished bogey, triple bogey. Runner-up Knox was unable to catch Henry finishing with two bogeys.

McLaughlin (bogey, par) won Division 1 by one shot with S McAuley (par, bogey) finishing second. A further shot behind came Turtle (two pars) and McVeigh (birdie, par) but with a better back nine Turtle claimed third place.

McAnally (two double bogeys) finished in first place in Division 2 with Monaghan (double bogey, bogey) and Wallace (par, bogey) finishing level but with a better back nine Monaghan finished second with Wallace in third place.

In Division 3 at the turn Noel McAlynn (18) held a two shot advantage over Alan Collie (20) with Andrew Moore (19) a further two shots behind. Another shot behind came Daniel Reilly (18) and Tony Quinn

(19) with Raymond Steele (19) two more shots down.

After 13 McAlynn was joined by Collie in the lead by one shot from Quinn and Reilly. Steele was another two points behind with Moore a further three shots down. With two holes to play only two shots separated the players.

Quinn was making his effort and joined McAlynn in the lead by one shot from Reilly. Collie hit bogey trouble and fell back another shot where he was joined by Steele and Moore.

McAlynn (par, bogey) and Quinn (bogey, par) finished together but with a better back nine Quinn took first place with McAlynn in second place. Reilly (bogey, bogey) finished third with Steele (bogey, bogey), Moore (bogey, bogey) and Collie (bogey, bogey) another point behind.

The gross prize was won by Liam Reilly Jnr (0) with a 71, while Raymond Ardis (16) took the seniors’ prize with a 69.
