Broughshane WI ladies give their backing to local food

THE April meeting of Broughshane WI was Visitor's Night when the theme for the evening was Promoting Local Produce.

President Sheila King welcomed visitors from Ahoghill, Cullybackey, Ballyclare and Straid Institutes to the meeting at which representatives from four local food businesses gave presentations about the production and marketing of their quality products.

They were Ruth McPeake from Trevor Barr's Butchers, Ballymena; Tammy Hoy from Hoy's Ice-cream, Holestone; Jake Patterson from Drumnakeel Herb Garden, Ballycastle; and Hugh Anderson from Galgorm Fine Foods.

Annie Hamilton was congratulated on winning the Elizabeth Lusk cup for knitting. Martha Wilson won the monthly competition for a Food Safety tip.

Members of the community and all quiz enthusiasts are invited to Broughshane WI Annual Table Quiz and Raffle which will be held in Broughshane Community Centre on Friday, April 23, at 7.45pm. Cost is 5 per person including supper. Maximum six persons per team.

Proceeds will go towards the ongoing improvement of Broughshane village.
