Bus Station set to be ‘upgraded’

Advising bus passengers that the work is scheduled to get underway and is scheduled for completion in under three months, Translink has also pointed out that it will involve a range of accessibility improvements to make local bus travel even more attractive, easy to use and hassle-free.

It will include new disabled toilets, a new accessible counter at the ticket desk, lowered station signage and new platform lighting.

The work is part of an overall £500,000 Translink investment programme to upgrade stations across the Ulsterbus network in compliance with the Disability Discrimination Act.

Translink Service Delivery Manager - Ballymena, Martin Lundy, says the investment will benefit all passengers, in particular those with mobility difficulties: “I would like to ask our passengers for their patience as we work hard to improve local bus facilities.”

Passengers with disabilities and older people are also encouraged to pick up a copy of the Translink Access Guide that provides useful travel advice when planning a journey by public transport.
