Mid and East Antrim Deputy Mayor Timothy Gaston was one of the first to welcome the introduction of 4G services to Ballymena.
He said: ““This will make a huge difference to mobile uses who will now be able to download online content much more quickly than is possible on a 3G network.”
But he added: “This development should also remind us of the poor mobile phone coverage which many people receive in North Antrim and the complete lack of even 3G in rural locations.
“As a representative of Bannside on the council and a TUV candidate for Westminster, I am only too well aware of this problem due to both my own experience and speaking to members of the public.”
“Improving mobile services across North Antrim, not just in Ballymena, is something which I will continue to fight for.”
