Ballymena town centre’s retail offering has suffered another blow with the news that the Poundstretcher store in Wellington Street is to close.
A painted notice on all the windows of the premises states that ‘all stock must go’.
Poundstretcher operated two stores in Ballymena.
Wellington Street was their first venture into the town where the discount outlet was based on what had been the short-lived ‘in-shops’ retail centre which was opened in the 1980s.
The Poundstretcher ‘new’ store at the Braidwater Retail park remains open for business.
Last week a meeting of Mid & East Antrim Council’s planning committee was told that town centre vacancies in Ballymena were a ‘negative aspect’ of the local economy.
