Buzz Lightyear encourages others to abseil for The Cedar Foundation

BALLYMENA’S own Buzz Lightyear is encouraging brave volunteers to take part in this year’s fundraising abseil in aid of The Cedar Foundation.

Following the success of last year’s abseil at the Premier Inn, Alfred Street Belfast, The Cedar Foundation is once again looking for volunteers to take part in this year’s fundraising event due to take place on Saturday, June 2.

Dressed as Buzz Lightyear, Matthew Gillan from Ballymena took part in the abseil last year. Looking back he said: “I got a real buzz out of doing the abseil last June and I would encourage people to sign up to this year’s event and support this cause which does a lot of great work in Ballymena with their Training and Resource Centre.”

Last year forty people from across Northern Ireland abseiled down the back of the Premier Inn into an enclosed courtyard, whilst being cheered on by their family and friends. Over £6,000 was raised to support Cedar’s work with local children and adults with disabilities and many people came in fancy dress which added to the fun of the day!

Christine Tweedie, Fundraising Co-ordinator for Cedar added: “If you’ve never done an abseil before, this is your chance! All we ask is that you pay a £20 deposit and raise at least £80 in sponsorship for our cause, fancy dress on the day is optional. If you’re interested, please do get in touch with us and we’ll provide you with a sponsorship form as well as fundraising hints and tips.’
